This miniature depicting the story of The Gruffalo was made for a primary school, and as such, needed to be extremely durable and strong. The Gruffalo and mouse were in clear view, with the owl, fox and snake made to be hidden in the model to act as a game to find the hiding characters as seen in the book.
The trees were sculpted using paper clay over a coach bolt and foil armature, with milliput roots and branches.
All of the forest floor details such as acorns, pinecones, mushrooms, and rocks were sculpted out of milliput and paper clay around a wood or metal rod, this was then inserted into the wooden base to increase durability.
The floor and path were made using painted coarse sand, whilst the leaves and grasses were made out of pastel paper.
The characters were made from polymer clays around wire and foil armatures.
Everything was painted using acrylic paints.
