A 1:6 scale miniature depicting the unfolding chaos of events at the start of The Hobbit where 12 dwarves and a wizard flood Bilbo Baggins' dining room and invite themselves for dinner...
This model was made in two separate parts: the room, and the characters. The main body of the room was made with wood and foam board. The fireplace was carved out of chemiwood, with a foam and plaster chimney. The internal skirting and woodwork was made out of a sheet of walnut, routed and glued together. This was finished off with boiled linseed oil.
The external rocks were made out of XPS foam, with the soil made from painted sand. The grass was made from pastel paper, and the windows were cut from wood, with resin glass panes and wire inserts.
The internal details were made from clays, paper, card, and wire. The furniture was made out of wood and stained. The plates, pots, jars, bowls, and bottles were hand-thrown on a mini potters wheel out of air-dry clay. The miniature food was made from paper clay and milliput, which were then added to the plates. Everything was painted with acrylic paints.
The characters were made out of polymer clay, on a wire and foil armature, and painted with acrylic paints.
