A 1:6 scale miniature of Davy Jones playing the organ as seen in Pirates of the Caribbean. This model was made as my Final Major Project at University. The whole aim for this model was to capture the emotion in Jones' face and body language as seen in the films. The model also had to have layer upon layer of detailed weathering as the organ is on a ship that sits in the sea. The base was cut in the shape of a shell to add to the sea life theme.
The organ was constructed from plywood, with wooden panelling textured with modelling paste. The bellows were made from wooden dowelling with milliput sculpted coral details. I painted the mural using acrylics on canvas which sat underneath the ornate wave carvings. This was made from carved wood and foam, which I refined with some milliput. The keyboard was made with wooden sticks, and everything was painted using acrylic paints.
There were layers of weathering added throughout, such as molluscs, mussels, barnacles, shells, and sea life. These were sculpted out of polymer clay, which was then added to the model.
Davy Jones was sculpted out of polymer clay, over a wire and foil armature, and painted in acrylic paints.
