Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle sculpture

Sea Turtle sculpture at 1:1 scale. This sea turtle is the smallest and most endangered sea turtle in the world.
The turtle was made from a wooden main support, with wooden carved and sanded fins, which was then sculpted over with paper clay. The underside was clad with styrene scales, with a sculpted head out of paper clay and milliput beak.
The shell pieces were individually carved out of oak wood, then glued together seamlessly to form the overall shell. This was then oiled. The turtle was painted with acrylic paints.
The base was routed from oak, with found old wood as driftwood screwed together to form a perch for the turtle to sit onto.
